    Matthew Narensky is an associate in the firm’s San Francisco office whose practice focuses on energy and environmental law. Mr. Narensky represents clients in a wide range of regulated industries in diverse proceedings before the California Public Utilities Commission. His experience includes natural gas and water rate-setting proceedings, CPCN applications, defending against Commission investigations and rule-making proceedings for the water and electric industries. Mr. Narensky represents energy industry clients before the California Energy Commission, the California Independent System Operator and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Mr. Narensky’s energy practice includes advising clients on the development, acquisition, disposition, project financing and operations of energy projects including solar, wind, geothermal and natural gas. He also regularly advises renewable energy companies on electricity sales, interconnection and transmission agreements. On the environmental side, Mr. Narensky handles litigation related to CERCLA cost recovery cases, Clean Water Act citizen enforcement actions, District Attorney actions alleging illegal disposal of hazardous waste and claims brought under the California Environmental Quality Act. He represents clients before several government regulatory agencies in enforcement actions, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, the Radiologic Health Branch, the State Water Resources Control Board and several Regional Water Quality Control Boards. Mr. Narensky has substantial experience defending major consumer litigation, including class actions involving alleged false advertising, product defects, and the disclosure of fees and services by a variety of businesses, including computer, software, rental car, and auto finance companies. In particular, he has defended numerous actions brought by consumers under Section 17200 challenging alleged unfair business practices. Mr. Narensky also has significant appellate litigation experience, particularly in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, where he served as staff attorney from 2005-2006. Mr. Narensky received a B.A. in Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1995 and a J.D., cum laude, in 2001 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he was articles editor of the Hastings Law Journal.
