    Steve Lendaris’ practice focuses on life science patent counseling, post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and intellectual property litigation. Mr. Lendaris represents a wide range of clients, from universities and small start-ups to large multinational corporations. He has particular experience with counseling clients in the fields of therapeutic antibody development and manufacturing as well as clients pursuing a broad range of biotechnology-related inventions, from novel strategies for nucleic acid sequencing to methods of “personalizing” the administration of bio-therapeutics. Mr. Lendaris is a frequent lecturer on the use of PTAB proceedings in the life sciences and has spoken extensively on the evolving standard of patent eligibility in life sciences. In addition to counseling clients with respect to strategic management of their own patent portfolios, Mr. Lendaris regularly assists clients IP diligence matters. Whether it is the review of a third party’s patent portfolio, the purchase of a royalty stream, or the acquisition of an entire enterprise, these diligence investigations often involve deep dives into highly technical areas of science and law in an effort to ensure both IP value and IP risk are appropriately considered. Mr. Lendaris also regularly advises life science companies in connection with post-grant petitions and trials before the PTAB. In addition to conventional ex parte reexamination proceedings, Mr. Lendaris has filed multiple petitions for inter partes review (IPR) on behalf of the firm’s life sciences clients. Mr. Lendaris is also a member of the firm’s PTAB Trials Committee and regularly reports on developments in the field, focusing particularly on the increased utilization of IPRs by biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Before attending law school, Mr. Lendaris performed his graduate school research on the protein-nucleic acid interactions underlying pre-messenger RNA splicing. Prior to graduate school, he was an assistant process development scientist at a large pharmaceutical company working on the production of recombinant blood clotting factors.
